Drug code resources

Find RxNorm concept IDs (RxCUI), National Drug Codes (NDC), and WHO ATC codes in the official public databases we use in our work.

Quick lookup

Enter a drug name, RxCUI, or NDC. The search opens in RxNav, the National Library of Medicine's drug browser.

Opens in a new tab. NDCs work with or without hyphens.

RxCUI, NDC, and ATC in one minute

RxCUI

An RxNorm Concept Unique Identifier names a drug concept, such as an ingredient, a strength and dose form, or a brand. It stays the same regardless of who makes the product.

NDC

A National Drug Code identifies a specific labeled product and package from a specific labeler. One RxCUI can map to many NDCs, which is why claims analyses link them.

ATC

The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical code classifies a drug by the organ system it acts on and its therapeutic and chemical properties. It groups drugs, such as all statins, across brands and manufacturers.
